- - - - - - - - - - | Luke Gwilliam bronze sculptures of nude male torsos c1955 Item # 5652 Click HERE to inquire about this item Unsigned pair of Luke Gwilliam bronze sculptures of nude male torsos c1955 Luke Guilliam was born 1911 and died in 1989. Gwilliam joined the New York art scene in 1951 after graduating from Worchester Art Museum when he was forty years old. His paintings were very well received in the 1950 and 1960's,often mentioned in the New York Times exhibit reviews. He was included in museum exhibits at the River Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Society of Four Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum. This pair of bronzes each measure 14 and three quarter inches high.

Each stands 18 and three quarters inches high 10 and is one half inches wide. Beautifully cast. Note the detailed textures of the hair, leggings, and boots. Probably collected by a fortunate young traveller on his grand tour of Italy. Original paper label affixed to back reads Columni de ????. Gorgeously hand painted scene of peasant women washing linens and travelers refreshing themselves and their horses at a classical water fountain in the mountainous countryside. Bordered by putti, floral swags, and seashells. Measures 24 and one half inches long by 17 inches wide by 2 and one quarter inches deep. Excellent condition.

- - - - - - - - - - - | Gorham gilt brass and silver ink well c1845 Item # 5672 Click HERE to inquire about this item Important gilt cast brass, coin silver, and cut glass platform ink well made by Jabez Gorham & Son of Providence, Rhode Island. Stamped J G & Son 109. Jabez Gorham was the founder of the Gorham Silver Company. This mark was used in 1841, when his son John joined the firm, until 1850. The inkwell features a silver full body stag atop the lid. The footed stand features gold plated scrollwork inset with 4 silver repousse panels depicting ducks, partridges, hares, and deer. Inkwell measures 6 and one half inches high by 3 and one half inches in diameter. Stand measures 12 inches square by 2 inches high.
